On a summer morning in Oxon Hill, Maryland, a dispute turned deadly, leaving a Washington, D.C. man shot and killed. The victim was identified as 45-year-old Tyrone Jones, a Black male. The incident unfolded on July 6, 2024, at approximately 10:00 a.m. in a parking lot in the 800 block of Southern Avenue. When Prince George's County police officers arrived at the scene, they discovered Jones suffering from gunshot wounds.
He was quickly transported to a local hospital for medical attention but succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead a short time later.
The investigation into the homicide moved swiftly, and authorities soon identified two suspects in connection with the fatal shooting. The Prince George's County Police Department's Homicide Unit charged 33-year-old Maverick Miller of Oxon Hill and 31-year-old Jujuan Hunter of Clinton with the murder of Tyrone Jones. Preliminary findings from the investigation suggested that the shooting was not a random act of violence but rather stemmed from a dispute between individuals who were known to each other.
Both Miller and Hunter are facing serious charges for their alleged involvement in the crime, including first and second-degree murder, as well as other related offenses. Following their arrest, they were taken into the custody of the Department of Corrections and held on a no-bond status. Initially, a reward of up to $25,000 was offered for information leading to an arrest and indictment in the case as detectives worked to identify the suspect or suspects and determine a motive for the shooting.
