In the early hours of a summer morning in Essex, Maryland, tragedy struck, forever altering the lives of several families. On July 27, 2019, 26-year-old Cameron Ross Stenhouse, a male resident of Essex, was fatally shot in an incident that also claimed the life of another man and left a third individual wounded. The shooting took place just before 12:30 a.m.
in the 1000 block of Foxcroft Lane, where police were called to investigate reports of gunfire.
Upon their arrival, officers discovered a grim scene with three gunshot victims. Cameron Ross Stenhouse and 34-year-old Dennis Christopher Vasquez were pronounced dead as a result of their injuries. A third victim was also found at the scene with a gunshot wound to the upper body but was expected to survive. The investigation into the triple shooting quickly began as authorities worked to piece together the events that led to the deadly encounter.
The investigation led police to identify a suspect in the killings. Corey Daniel Powell, a 24-year-old resident of the same block where the shooting occurred, was arrested in connection with the incident. Authorities determined that the shooting took place during a drug transaction. Powell was subsequently charged with two counts of first-degree murder for the deaths of Stenhouse and Vasquez, and one count of attempted first-degree murder for the injury of the third victim. Following his arrest, he was held without bail at the Baltimore County Detention Center.
