On the night of April 17, 2020, in Salisbury, Maryland, 33-year-old Dondre Wilson, who was also known as Dondre Maurice Dre, was shot and killed. The incident occurred shortly before 11:00 p.m. in the 1000 block of Adams Avenue, at an apartment complex where Wilson was reportedly delivering food to a resident.
Responding to 911 calls about shots being fired, officers from the Salisbury Police Department arrived to find Wilson inside his Hyundai Sonata.
The vehicle had apparently crashed into a parked car before coming to a stop in a wooded area nearby. Emergency medical personnel pronounced him deceased at the scene. An autopsy later confirmed that Wilson's death was a homicide caused by multiple gunshot wounds.
The Maryland State Police Homicide Unit took the lead in the investigation, with assistance from the Salisbury Police Department and the Wicomico County State's Attorney's Office. Through their investigation, which involved witness interviews and the collection of evidence, four suspects were identified in connection with the murder.
The suspects were identified as Dimarise Deshields, 22, Pierre Copes, Jr., 23, Jaron Purnell, 19, and Torrey Brittingham, 21. All four individuals were subsequently arrested and charged with first and second-degree murder, along with other criminal charges. The arrests took place between late April and early May of 2020. The four men were being held at the Wicomico County Detention Center following their arrests.
