In a quiet Laurel, Maryland neighborhood, the evening of May 10, 2021, was shattered by violence that claimed the lives of Ryan Scott Lee Sr. and his wife, Ivania Margarita Lee, both 31 years old. The tragedy unfolded when Anne Arundel County Police responded to a shooting at their home on Federalsburg South. Upon arrival, officers discovered Ryan Lee on a nearby sidewalk with gunshot wounds; he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Inside the residence, the horror continued as police found
Ivania Lee, also suffering from fatal gunshot wounds. The couple's 10-year-old son was found critically injured but alive, having also been shot; he was rushed to a hospital and survived. Another young child, the couple's daughter, was able to escape the home unharmed with a woman who was also present during the attack.
The investigation quickly identified the gunman as 57-year-old Shawn Maurice Price. It was determined that Price had previously been in a long-term relationship with Ryan Lee's mother. In the months leading up to the shooting, the relationship had ended, and Price had been attempting to reconcile, but his ex-girlfriend had refused contact. On that tragic Monday night, Price went to the Lee's home, where his ex-girlfriend was living, and when he couldn't find her, he opened fire on her son and his family.
After murdering the couple and shooting their child, Shawn Price turned the gun on himself, taking his own life at the scene. Investigators found a handgun next to his body, and his injuries were consistent with a self-inflicted gunshot wound, classifying the incident as a murder-suicide. The Anne Arundel County Police Department confirmed that the attack was a targeted act of violence and not random. In the wake of the tragedy, the community mourned the loss of the Lees, who were remembered for their dedication to youth leadership and community betterment.
