In the early morning hours of October 21, 2006, the life of 32-year-old Jennifer Skurow was tragically cut short during an armed robbery at the Perkins Restaurant on Rivers Avenue in North Charleston, South Carolina, where she worked as a relief manager. A beautiful young woman who had been a dedicated employee at the restaurant since 2001, she was discovered inside the establishment by police, having succumbed to gunshot wounds.
The investigation quickly focused on a recently terminated
employee of the restaurant, 21-year-old Dominic Marshall Derricotte. Authorities learned that Derricotte had acquaintances in Virginia and, in a coordinated effort with the Stafford County Sheriff's deputies, he was located and apprehended in Virginia on the same day as the murder. North Charleston police had issued arrest warrants for Derricotte in connection with the slaying and armed robbery.
Following his extradition back to South Carolina, Dominic Marshall Derricotte stood trial for the murder of Jennifer Skurow. The legal proceedings culminated in his conviction for both murder and armed robbery. For these crimes, he received concurrent sentences of life imprisonment for murder and thirty years for armed robbery, ensuring he would be held accountable for the senseless act of violence that ended a young woman's life.
