On a summer evening in North Charleston, South Carolina, the life of 22-year-old Zarria Mariah Gadsden, a Black female from Ladson, was tragically cut short. On July 6, 2022, inside the North Park Grill, a sports bar located in the Otranto Plaza, a violent altercation ended in gunfire shortly before 11:30 p.m. Patrons found Gadsden on the floor near the entrance, suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite their efforts to render aid, her injuries proved fatal, and she died at the scene.

The following day, a 24-year-old woman named Taneisha Brown turned herself in to the authorities. The North Charleston Police Department subsequently charged Brown with murder and possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a violent crime. She was booked into the Charleston County jail as the investigation into the shooting continued.

In the wake of her death, friends and family gathered to mourn the loss of the young woman. Funeral services for Zarria Mariah Gadsden were held at the Canaan Missionary Baptist Church in North Charleston, offering a space for the community to remember her and grapple with the sudden and violent end to her life.
