In the community of Goose Creek, South Carolina, the life of 40-year-old Alvin J. Walker was tragically cut short on the evening of March 20, 2019. That day, deputies from the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to the 100 block of Liberty Hall Road following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered Walker lying in the grass, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, with a bystander attempting to render aid.
Emergency medical services rushed Walker to a
nearby hospital, but his injuries proved to be too severe, and he was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival. The Berkeley County Coroner's Office later confirmed that the cause of death was the multiple gunshot wounds he sustained in the attack. Walker's death marked the fourth homicide to occur in Berkeley County that year.
The investigation into the shooting was a joint effort between the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office and the Coroner's Office. Their work quickly led to a suspect, and an arrest was made in connection with the fatal shooting. Lamont Mark Garrett, a 23-year-old resident of Hanahan, was taken into custody by deputies. Following his arrest, Garrett was transported to the Berkeley County Detention Center. The investigation continued as authorities worked to understand the circumstances and motive that led to the violent end of Alvin Walker's life.
