On the evening of February 24, 2024, the lives of William and his 43-year-old mother, Tracy McEvoy, were violently ended. Authorities were called to their home on Water Oak Drive with a report of an intoxicated man holding hostages at gunpoint. When police arrived, they surrounded the residence and attempted to make contact with those inside. After their efforts to communicate were unsuccessful, a SWAT team entered the home.
Inside, they discovered a devastating scene. William Allen McEvoy and his mother had been shot and killed. The suspect, identified as 43-year-old Nicholas Hegwein, was also found deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
