On March 17, 2023, 17-year-old Kelvin Tyrone Simmons Jr., affectionately known as "Jay" or "Kel," was fatally shot at the Marrington Village apartments off Harbour Lake Drive in Goose Creek, South Carolina. Deputies from the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene and found Simmons suffering from a gunshot wound on the complex's basketball court. He was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
