In the early hours of September 12, 2020, events unfolded at the Fair Oaks apartments on Lindsay Road in Seneca, South Carolina, that would end the life of 35-year-old Charles Antonio Clark. Shortly after 2 a.m., Seneca police officers responded to a call and discovered Clark lying in the doorway of one of the apartment units. He had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
Responding officers immediately began rendering medical aid, applying bandages and performing chest compressions for over
six minutes in an effort to save his life. Despite their efforts, Charles Antonio Clark succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Investigators at the apartment complex recovered approximately 20 shell casings, indicating the severity of the incident. In the initial stages of the investigation, the Seneca Police Department identified a person of interest and sought them for questioning as they began to piece together the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting.
A thorough investigation into Clark's death was conducted by the Seneca Police Department. Detectives interviewed more than 20 individuals and collected around 400 items of evidence. They also dedicated significant time to reviewing video surveillance footage from the apartment complex. After an exhaustive review of all the evidence and witness statements, the police presented their findings to the 10th Circuit Solicitor's Office. The conclusion of the investigation was that the shooting of Charles Antonio Clark was an act of self-defense. Consequently, law enforcement officials announced that no criminal charges would be filed in connection with his death.
