In the early morning hours of October 26, 2021, a family dispute in Seneca, South Carolina, ended in tragedy, leaving 48-year-old Aaron Parrish Putnam, a White male, dead from a gunshot wound. The Oconee County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call reporting a shooting on Singing Pines Road shortly after 1 a.m. Upon their arrival, deputies discovered Putnam lying in the yard of a residence.
The Oconee County Coroner pronounced him dead at the scene, and his death was subsequently ruled a homicide.
Investigators determined that the fatal shooting stemmed from a domestic altercation. According to the Sheriff's Office, 26-year-old Wayne Austin Raffaldt, also a resident of Seneca, had driven to the home with another family member to confront Putnam. During this confrontation, Raffaldt allegedly shot Putnam, causing his immediate death.
Following the incident, law enforcement officials arrested Wayne Austin Raffaldt. He was charged with murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. Raffaldt was taken into custody and booked into the Oconee County Detention Center, where he remained as legal proceedings in the case commenced. The tragic event drew attention due to the familial nature of the dispute that ultimately led to a man's life being cut short.
