In the late hours of a September evening in 2018, a dispute outside a local lounge in Hopewell, Virginia, escalated into a tragedy that claimed the life of 22-year-old Trevon White. The young man, a graduate of Hopewell High School, was fatally wounded in a shooting that erupted from a verbal altercation.
The incident unfolded in the early morning of Saturday, September 8, 2018, outside of Cambro's Soul Food and Lounge. Hopewell Police responded to reports of a large disturbance.
While on their way, they received further information that shots had been fired. Upon their arrival, they discovered Trevon White suffering from multiple life-threatening gunshot wounds. He was rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency medical attention.
For two days, White fought for his life in intensive care. Sadly, on Monday, September 10, 2018, he succumbed to his injuries. Following his death, the Hopewell Police Department launched a homicide investigation into the shooting.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the shooting stemmed from a verbal disagreement that intensified into a physical fight among several unidentified individuals. Authorities appealed to the public for assistance, urging any witnesses who were present during the disturbance and the subsequent shooting to come forward with any information that could lead to the identification and apprehension of a suspect or suspects.
