In the quiet suburbs of St. Louis, a young man's life was cut short in a burst of violence that shattered the peace of a Monday evening. Jarrick Boone, a 21-year-old male, was sitting in a car near the intersection of Belaire Place and Natural Bridge in Beverly Hills, Missouri, when the attack occurred. It was on March 31, 2014, that shots rang out, striking Boone and another 23-year-old man who was with him in the vehicle.
Both victims were rushed to a nearby hospital, but Boone’s
injuries proved to be too severe. After fighting for his life for two days, he succumbed to his wounds. The other man, fortunate to have sustained non-life-threatening injuries, was treated and subsequently released. The incident left a community in shock and a family grappling with a senseless loss.
The investigation into the shooting moved swiftly, and within days, authorities had a suspect in custody. Derrick Collins, who was also 21 at the time, was arrested in connection with the fatal shooting. The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney's office laid heavy charges against him, including first-degree murder for the death of Jarrick Boone.
In addition to the murder charge, Collins faced two counts of first-degree assault and three counts of armed criminal action, reflecting the gravity of the attack that injured one man and claimed the life of another.
