A farmer discovers a decomposing body On a June day in 2004, a farmer in the rural community of Vevay, Indiana, made a grim discovery that would set in motion a long-unsolved case. Inside his tenant mobile home located at 1180 State Route 129, he found the decomposing body of a man later identified as Arturo Castillo, a 38-year-old Hispanic migrant worker. The discovery on June 3, 2004, marked the beginning of a homicide investigation that would span years without a resolution.
Investigators learned that Castillo had been
living in the trailer with two other Hispanic migrant workers. When his body was found, these two men were gone, and they had taken their belongings with them. This immediately raised suspicion, and efforts were launched to identify and find the two individuals who had vanished. Despite the efforts of the Indiana State Police, the identities and whereabouts of these potential key witnesses, or possible suspects, have remained a mystery.
The case of Arturo Castillo's death is now considered a cold case, a lingering question in the small Switzerland County community. The circumstances surrounding his death and the subsequent disappearance of his roommates point to a narrative with missing pieces. Law enforcement continues to ask for anyone with information to come forward, hopeful that a new lead might one day shed light on what happened to Arturo Castillo in that mobile home and bring those responsible to justice. To date, no arrests have been made, and no suspects have been officially named.
