On the night of December 16, 2017, police officers in Kansas City, Missouri, were dispatched to the 9300 block of Cable Road in the southern part of the city following reports of a person lying in the roadway. Upon arrival, they discovered 36-year-old Joegina L. Davis suffering from critical injuries. A passing motorist who had spotted her in the street told investigators that he stopped to render aid and asked her who had inflicted the injuries.
