Dennis Shaner, a 50-year-old inmate, died on May 24, 2018, in Springfield, Missouri, under tragic circumstances. Shaner was being transported from Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, to the Taney County Jail on a felony warrant when the incident occurred. During a stop at the Greene County Jail to drop off another inmate, Shaner, who had a history of suicidal threats, managed to obtain an unsecured handgun from the transport van and fatally shot himself in the head.
