On July 14, 2024, at approximately 1:09 a.m., Springfield police officers responded to gunshots near the Party City parking lot at 2620 S. Campbell Avenue. Upon arrival, they discovered 28-year-old Jesus Lopez Pacheco with multiple gunshot wounds; he was pronounced dead at the scene. Another individual, 27-year-old Josue Fernando Alvarado Valenzuela, was found with non-life-threatening injuries and transported to a local hospital for treatment. Both men were identified as being from Mexico.
