In the early morning hours of July 14, 2024, a violent altercation outside a commercial establishment in Springfield, Missouri, resulted in the death of 28-year-old Jesus Lopez Pacheco. Officers from the Springfield Police Department were dispatched to the 2600 block of South Campbell Avenue at approximately 1:09 a.m. after receiving reports of gunfire in the area.
Upon their arrival at the Party City parking lot, first responders discovered the male victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite the immediate presence of law enforcement, Pacheco succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation revealed that the incident originated at a nearby bar, where surveillance footage captured an initial confrontation. The footage reportedly showed Pacheco striking another man as they exited the venue. This dispute spilled into the parking lot, escalating significantly. Witnesses observed the second individual assaulting Pacheco before retrieving a firearm. As Pacheco attempted to flee the scene, he was shot by the assailant. The suspect was then seen discarding the weapon nearby.
Authorities located the suspect, identified as 27-year-old Josue Fernando Alvarado Valenzuela, at the scene. Valenzuela was found leaning inside a vehicle, suffering from multiple non-life-threatening injuries. Both men were identified as being originally from Mexico. Valenzuela was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment before being taken into custody.
Following his release from medical care, Josue Fernando Alvarado Valenzuela was arrested and booked into the Greene County Jail. The Springfield Police Department Homicide Unit charged him with second-degree murder and armed criminal action. He was held without bond. The Greene County Prosecutor's Office formally filed these charges, emphasizing that they are allegations and that the defendant retains the presumption of innocence until proven guilty in a court of law. This incident marked the sixth homicide investigation conducted by Springfield police in 2024.
