On the morning of July 9, 2018, law enforcement officials in Kansas City, Missouri, were dispatched to a residential neighborhood following reports of gunfire. Officers arrived at the scene in the 1600 block of Lister Avenue, near East 16th Street, around 7:35 a.m. Upon their arrival, they discovered the body of a male victim in an alleyway behind a home. The deceased was identified as 36-year-old Derrick Wade Harris.
