In the summer of 2019, a Kansas City family was struck by a devastating and swift succession of tragedies. On the evening of July 8th, 18-year-old Charles Pelton, a young man and father to a 9-month-old son, went to the Evangel Church on East 103rd Street to play basketball. What should have been a casual game turned into a scene of violence when gunfire erupted in the church parking lot.
