On a Wednesday evening in May of 2019, the life of 56-year-old Vincent Sanders, a Black male, was tragically cut short in the Fairground neighborhood of St. Louis. The incident, which unfolded around 6:30 p.m. near the intersection of North Grand Boulevard and Natural Bridge Avenue, left the community searching for answers. Responding to a call for a shooting, St. Louis police officers arrived to a grim scene. They discovered Sanders inside a vehicle, suffering from a gunshot wound.
He was rushed to a nearby hospital, but tragically, his injuries proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead.
The initial hours of the investigation painted a harrowing picture of the events that led to the fatal shooting. According to authorities, Sanders had been involved in a verbal altercation with another man. This dispute quickly escalated, and the other individual produced a firearm, shooting Sanders before fleeing the scene.
