On February 3, 2024, a violent incident unfolded in the Dutchtown neighborhood of St. Louis, Missouri, leaving a community shaken and a family grieving. Police officers responded to a call in the 3300 block of Gasconade Street, near the southern edge of Marquette Park, where they discovered the lifeless body of 40-year-old male Shanchez Jordan on the sidewalk. Authorities determined that he had sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the forehead.
Jordan, a resident of the 4100 block of Lafayette Avenue, was pronounced dead at the scene, sparking a homicide investigation to uncover the circumstances leading to his untimely death.
Detectives scouring the area located a single. 380-caliber cartridge casing near where the victim was found. This piece of evidence proved critical as forensic laboratory analysis linked the casing to another shooting incident in which a witness had previously identified a suspect. Further investigation revealed that shortly before the murder, Jordan had received a phone call regarding a meeting. Witness statements indicated that the call originated from a phone used by 32-year-old Anton D. Moore. Additionally, another witness reportedly came forward to law enforcement, alleging that Moore had admitted to killing Jordan.
Following these developments, prosecutors filed charges against Anton D. Moore, including first-degree murder and armed criminal action. Moore, who resided in the 4100 block of Michigan Avenue, was already in custody at the time charges were filed, having been held in jail since May on an unrelated domestic assault case. The combination of ballistic evidence and witness testimony allowed authorities to formally accuse him of the crime, bringing a measure of resolution to the initial phase of the investigation into Shanchez Jordan's death.
