On the afternoon of August 29, 2014, a violent tragedy unfolded in the 4400 block of Ferdinand Avenue in St. Louis, Missouri, claiming the life of 41-year-old Darnell Martin. Shortly before 5:30 p.m., Martin was outside with two friends, a 20-year-old man and a 21-year-old man, attending to a flat tire on a vehicle.
