Summary based on 1 source
On the evening of Tuesday, May 1, 2018, 22-year-old African American male Darius Lamarr Hunt was fatally shot in the North St. Louis neighborhood of The Ville. The incident occurred around 9:15 p.m. in the 4300 block of Aldine Avenue, near the intersection with Billups Avenue. Hunt was walking home from a nearby store with an acquaintance when an unknown assailant approached them and opened fire. Hunt sustained a gunshot wound to the chest, while the other man he was with was shot in the leg.

Emergency responders transported both victims to a local hospital for treatment. Despite undergoing hours of surgery, Hunt succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead the following day, May 2, 2018. The second victim survived his injuries and was listed in serious but stable condition. Hunt, a resident of Missouri, was the youngest of three sons and worked closely with his father, Roger Hunt, as a camera operator, producer, and director for the family's media production endeavors, including the show 'Straight Talk with Roger Hunt Unscripted.'

As of the last available reports, no arrests have been made in connection with Darius Hunt's murder. Investigators at the time did not believe Hunt was the intended target of the shooting, and his father described the killing as a tragic case of mistaken identity involving a young man who was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. The case remains an unsolved homicide, leaving the family to advocate against gun violence in the St. Louis community without the closure of a criminal conviction.
