Clifton Duane Bloomfield: A Detailed Account of His Crimes
Early Life and Criminal Background
Clifton Duane Bloomfield, born in March 1969 in Kingman, Arizona, exhibited criminal tendencies from a young age. At 10, he was placed on probation due to a BB gun incident, and by 13, he had committed theft and burglary. In 1989, Bloomfield and his sister engaged in a crime spree in Phoenix, leading to a 14-year prison sentence. He was released in 2002 and relocated to Albuquerque, New Mexico.
October 2005 Murders
In late October 2005, Bloomfield committed two murders in Albuquerque:
- Carlos Esquibel: On October 24, 2005, Bloomfield met 37-year-old Carlos Esquibel at a Fuddruckers restaurant. After returning to Esquibel's apartment on Walter SE, Bloomfield strangled him with his own shirt. The landlord discovered Esquibel's body hours later.
- Josephine Selvage: On October 27, 2005, Bloomfield entered the home of 81-year-old retired schoolteacher Josephine Selvage through an unsecured back door. When confronted by Selvage, who suffered from Alzheimer's disease, Bloomfield strangled her with a piece of clothing. He left without stealing anything.
Hiatus and Subsequent Criminal Activities
Following these murders, Bloomfield committed a home invasion in Los Ranchos, New Mexico, in December 2005, robbing an elderly couple at gunpoint. He was arrested in Texas, extradited to New Mexico, and served 18 months in jail after pleading guilty. Upon release, he worked as a roofer and secured a role as an extra in the film "Felon" (2008).
