Robert Aaron Long and the 2021 Atlanta-Area Spa Shootings
Overview
On March 16, 2021, 21-year-old Robert Aaron Long carried out a shooting spree at three Atlanta-area massage businesses, killing eight people and wounding one. He was arrested the same evening and later admitted to the killings. In July 2021, he pleaded guilty to four murders in Cherokee County and received life sentences without the possibility of parole; he still faces capital charges in Fulton County for the four Atlanta murders.
Timeline of the Attacks (March 16, 2021)
~3:38 p.m. – 4:50 p.m. (ET), Young’s Asian Massage (near Acworth, Cherokee County): Long arrived after purchasing a 9mm handgun earlier that afternoon. He remained inside for over an hour before opening fire, killing four people and injuring one. First 911 calls were logged at 4:54 p.m.
5:47 p.m. (ET), Gold Spa and Aromatherapy Spa (Piedmont Road, Atlanta): Atlanta police responded to reports at Gold Spa, where three women were found dead. Minutes later, officers discovered another woman fatally shot at Aromatherapy Spa across the street.
~8:30 p.m. (ET), Crisp County: Using vehicle tracking and surveillance, authorities stopped Long’s car on I-75 and arrested him without incident. He was reportedly driving toward Florida.
