Latefa S. Baker, a 40-year-old Black woman, was killed in a shooting in Kansas City, Missouri, on May 29, 2022. The incident occurred on U.S. 71 near Emanuel Cleaver II Boulevard.
Just after midnight, police were called to the area after reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, they discovered Baker and an adult male inside a vehicle, both suffering from gunshot wounds. Baker was unresponsive at the scene and was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.
The male victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries and survived.
The investigation revealed that shots had been fired into their car from another, unknown vehicle. In order to gather evidence, authorities closed a section of the highway for several hours. The Kansas City Police Department has urged anyone with information to contact their Homicide Unit or the TIPS hotline. A reward of up to $25,000 has been offered for information that leads to an arrest in the case.
As of now, there has been no public identification of any suspects, and no arrests have been announced in connection with the shooting. The investigation into Latefa Baker's death is ongoing.
