On the morning of September 14, 2017, tragedy struck a residence in the 4500 block of Benton Boulevard in Kansas City, Missouri, where 37-year-old Alice Humphrey was found deceased. Police were dispatched to the two-story home shortly after 6:15 a.m. following a disturbance call and a subsequent 911 notification. Upon arrival, officers discovered the bodies of Humphrey and a male subject inside the house, both having sustained fatal gunshot wounds.
The male individual discovered at the
scene was identified as 35-year-old Bobby Harris. Investigators determined that Harris had shot Humphrey before turning the weapon on himself. The incident was officially classified by authorities as a murder-suicide, with Humphrey identified as the victim of homicide and Harris’s death ruled a suicide. Because the sole suspect died at the scene, there were no subsequent arrests, charges filed, or criminal trials associated with the case.
A 16-year-old teenager, reported to be a relative of Humphrey, was present in the home at the time of the shooting. He was found unharmed in the basement of the residence, where he lived. Police confirmed that the teen was the individual who placed the initial 911 call and stated that he was not considered a suspect in the violent event. following the incident, the youth was placed in the care of other family members.
