On a Sunday afternoon in Kansas City, Missouri, a dispute over a missing phone and charger tragically escalated, ending the life of 21-year-old Solana Sagun. The events of March 6, 2022, unfolded when Sagun, a female, and a friend drove to the Santa Fe neighborhood in search of a man she had reportedly been on a date with the previous night. Believing he had her belongings, they located his residence near 29th Street and Montgall Avenue.
Their attempt to retrieve the items took a fatal
turn when a man, identified as Brandon Bowman, emerged from the residence. An argument ensued, and according to the surviving friend, Sagun expressed that she was not afraid of the gun he was holding. In response, Bowman allegedly began shooting into their Jeep Laredo, striking both women. The friend, who was driving, sped away from the scene.
Kansas City police were alerted to the shooting shortly before 2:00 p.m. and found the bullet-riddled vehicle near 27th Street and Montgall Avenue. The passenger-side door and window were shattered. Both Sagun and her friend were rushed to local hospitals for their injuries. While her friend was listed in stable condition, Solana Sagun succumbed to her wounds and was pronounced dead at Truman Medical Center.
The investigation quickly led police to 21-year-old Brandon K. Bowman. Surveillance video from the area reportedly showed Bowman exiting his home, pointing a handgun, and firing a shot. He was taken into custody at his residence where shell casings were also discovered. The Jackson County Prosecutor's Office charged Bowman with second-degree murder, first-degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon, and three counts of armed criminal action. During a police interview, Bowman allegedly admitted to firing at the vehicle, stating he felt threatened. He claimed he had accidentally taken Sagun's phone after they met and had left it at a liquor store for her to pick up.
