In the winter of 2021, a mother's life was tragically cut short in a violent encounter that also claimed the life of her son. Khasheme Strother, a 35-year-old Black female, was a dedicated and loving mother to her five boys, working as a CNA and entrepreneur in Kansas City, Missouri. Her vibrant and compassionate spirit was well-known within her community, where she was always ready to support others in pursuing their dreams.
On the afternoon of February 17th, the townhouse on Pennway
Terrace that Strother and her children called home became a scene of horror. An argument between Strother and her boyfriend, 32-year-old Dmarius Bozeman, escalated into a physical altercation. Strother's children, hearing the commotion from upstairs, rushed down to find Bozeman on top of their mother, who was pleading with him to get off. The children's attempts to intervene and protect their mother were met with threats from Bozeman. The confrontation tragically culminated in gunfire.
When police arrived at the residence, they discovered the bodies of Khasheme Strother and her 19-year-old son, Raymon Hill. Both had sustained fatal gunshot wounds. A third individual, Bozeman, was also found at the scene with a gunshot wound to his leg. He claimed to have shot Strother accidentally and Hill in self-defense. However, the investigation and witness accounts from the juveniles present painted a different picture, one of domestic violence that had turned deadly. Raymon, it was believed by his family, died while protecting his mother.
Dmarius Bozeman was subsequently arrested and faced legal proceedings. He was ultimately found guilty for his role in the deaths of Khasheme Strother and Raymon Hill. For his crimes, Bozeman was sentenced to serve 30 years in prison, bringing a measure of justice to a family shattered by the loss of a beloved mother and her brave son.
