In a wooded area in Kansas City, Missouri, the life of 40-year-old Misty Brockman, a female, came to a tragic end on October 16, 2022. Officers were called to the vicinity of N.E. 48th Street and Randolph Road where they were directed into the woods and discovered two individuals who had been shot. Brockman was pronounced dead at the scene from what appeared to be significant trauma.
Alongside her was the body of 42-year-old Kevin Moore.
Investigators from the Kansas City Police Department and the medical examiner's office investigated the circumstances surrounding the deaths. The preliminary ruling in the case was determined to be a murder-suicide, with Moore identified as the perpetrator who shot Brockman before turning the gun on himself. Friends described Brockman, a mother of five young sons, as a 'firecracker' who was always there for them.
The investigation into this incident revealed a darker story connected to Moore. Authorities later confirmed that Moore was also the suspect in the murders of two predoctoral medical researchers, 24-year-old Camila Behrensen and 25-year-old Pablo Guzmán Palma. The two researchers were found dead from apparent trauma in their burned apartment on October 1, 2022, just over two weeks before Moore and Brockman were discovered. Investigators used phone and computer data, surveillance footage, ballistic testing, and DNA evidence to link Moore to the double homicide and arson. The nature of the relationship, if any, between Moore and Brockman, or between Moore and the two researchers, remains unclear.
