On the morning of March 13, 2023, a violent domestic disturbance unfolded at a residence in the Kirkside neighborhood of South Kansas City, Missouri. Police were dispatched around 8:00 a.m. to a home in the 11500 block of Food Lane after receiving reports of a shooting. Inside the residence, officers discovered 29-year-old Trianna Lashae Tisdale suffering from gunshot wounds. The African American woman had been involved in a heated argument with her live-in boyfriend, 31-year-old Jaylen E.
McDaniel. According to a juvenile witness present during the altercation, the dispute escalated when McDaniel struck Tisdale in the face.
The situation turned fatal after Tisdale threatened to call 911 to report the assault. As she attempted to contact authorities, McDaniel allegedly produced a pistol and fired multiple shots at her in front of her young son. After she fell to the floor, the suspect reportedly removed her car keys from her wrist and fled the scene in her Chevy Impala. Emergency responders transported Tisdale to a nearby hospital in critical condition, but she was pronounced dead shortly after her arrival.
Investigators quickly launched a search for McDaniel, locating the victim’s abandoned vehicle the following day at 76th Street and Troost Avenue. Inside the car, detectives found personal items belonging to the suspect, including his driver’s license. McDaniel was eventually apprehended in southern Missouri following a standoff with law enforcement. Jackson County prosecutors subsequently charged him with second-degree murder, armed criminal action, unlawful possession of a firearm, and first-degree endangerment of a child's welfare.
