Anna Nicole Velazquez, a 35-year-old female, was tragically killed on Sunday, April 26, 2020, in Kansas City, Missouri. The incident, a result of gun violence, took place at her home in the 3700 block of East Seventh Street. When police arrived at the scene just after 10 p.m. following a report of a shooting, they discovered her body in an upstairs bedroom. She had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
Her husband, 34-year-old Carlos Velazquez, was identified as the suspect.
Shortly after the shooting, at approximately 9:30 p.m., he went to his father's nearby home. Visibly distraught, he confessed to his father that he had just killed his wife. When law enforcement arrived at the scene of the crime, Carlos Velazquez told them, 'My wife is dying. It was an accident,' although he later claimed to have no recollection of the shooting itself. Investigators found a 9mm Glock 17 handgun in the front yard of the residence and multiple 9mm shell casings both inside and outside the bedroom where Anna was found. Fortunately, two children who were in the home at the time were found unharmed in a separate bedroom.
Carlos Velazquez was taken into custody that same night. He was subsequently charged by Jackson County prosecutors with second-degree murder and armed criminal action for the death of his wife, Anna. A bond was set at $200,000 cash. The charges filed are accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
