On Christmas Eve morning in Raytown, Missouri, a suburb of Kansas City, the body of 40-year-old Amber Minor, a Black transgender woman, was discovered in a driveway. The tragic event unfolded on December 24, 2023, when police responded to a call at approximately 8:35 a.m. in the 9800 block of 77th Terrace. Upon arrival, officers found Minor with a gunshot wound, and she was pronounced dead at the scene.
A lifetime resident of Kansas City, her death was recorded as the sixth homicide in Raytown for the year.
Friends and community members remember Amber Minor as a resilient and vibrant individual with a strong-willed personality. Described as the life of the party, she was known for her love of entertaining and for always speaking her mind. Having spent time in the foster care system during her childhood, she faced numerous challenges throughout her life. Despite hardships, including surviving previous violent incidents, she was remembered by a close friend as a 'warrior' and a 'survivor.' Her friends and local LGBTQ+ advocacy groups, such as the LGBTQ Commission of Kansas City, have been vocal in ensuring she is remembered and respected for her true identity.
The investigation into Amber Minor's death is ongoing, and as of late January 2024, no suspects have been publicly identified, and no arrests have been made.
