She was last heard from on July 13 while shopping for groceries, having planned to visit her mother’s home shortly after. When she never arrived and calls to her phone went unanswered, her relatives attempted to file a missing person report with the Kansas City Police Department.
However, they faced immediate bureaucratic hurdles; officers initially declined to take the report, suggesting that adults often disappear voluntarily. It was not until days later that a report was officially filed, but by then, crucial time had been lost, and no media alerts were issued to the public to assist in the search.
Three weeks after she vanished, on August 4, 2017, a passerby discovered human remains along a tree line near East 51st Street and College Avenue in Kansas City, Missouri. The body was in a state of advanced decomposition, requiring investigators to use dental records to positively identify the victim as Blewett. Although the police officially classified the death as a homicide, they released few details regarding the specific cause of death to the public. Family members later shared that they were informed she had sustained a gunshot wound to the back of the head, a detail that deepened their anguish as they sought justice for what they believed was a targeted act of violence.
