On March 5, 2018, the life of 17-year-old female Armani Johnson was tragically cut short during a violent incident at a residence in Kansas City, Missouri. A senior at Raytown High School with aspirations of becoming a dentist, Johnson was at a home in the 7900 block of East 48th Street when the disturbance began in the early morning hours. Officers were dispatched to the scene around 2:30 a.m.
following reports of gunfire.
Upon arrival, law enforcement discovered Johnson’s body outside the residence. Investigation revealed that she had been fleeing from a shooting rampage initiated by her cousin, Billy Hunter Jr. inside the home. Authorities determined that Johnson was shot from behind as she attempted to escape the violence that had erupted within the house, where Hunter had also fatally shot Alisha Brooks, the mother of his four-year-old child.
The suspect, identified as Billy Hunter Jr., left the scene briefly but returned in a vehicle while police were establishing a perimeter. He opened fire on the officers, who returned fire, resulting in a shootout that ended with Hunter being killed. Following the exchange of gunfire, police noticed smoke billowing from the residence; it was later discovered that Hunter had set the house on fire. Because the suspect died during the confrontation with law enforcement, no arrests were made, and the case was closed with the death of the perpetrator.
