On February 12, 2024, at approximately 12:30 a.m., Kansas City police responded to a reported shooting near the intersection of 50th Street and Bellefontaine Avenue. Upon arrival, officers discovered 56-year-old Ruth A. Bowman lying unresponsive on the sidewalk with an apparent gunshot wound to the chest. Emergency medical services pronounced her deceased at the scene.
