On a summer evening in Kansas City, Missouri, the life of 25-year-old Melquan T. West-Yancy, a male, was cut short by gunfire. The fatal shooting occurred on Saturday, July 20, 2024. Police were called to the area of 9th Street and Prospect Avenue around 7:30 p.m. following reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they discovered West-Yancy just east of that location, near 9th and Chestnut, suffering from gunshot wounds.
