On the night of July 1, 2022, a quiet street in the Compton Heights neighborhood of St. Louis, Missouri, became the scene of a sudden and unexplained tragedy involving 26-year-old Jerrod Lee Jones Jr. Around 1:00 a.m., St. Louis police officers were driving through the 3500 block of Russell Boulevard, en route to an unrelated call for service. As they passed through the area, their attention was drawn to a figure lying on the ground next to a vehicle parked along the curb.
Upon closer inspection, the officers discovered the body of a Black male who had sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the back of the head.
