On a Monday morning in the quiet area of Wellston in St. Louis, Missouri, the life of 64-year-old Wendell Wayne Wright was tragically cut short. On December 2, 2019, at approximately 9:45 a.m., police responded to a call on the 1500 block of Wellston Place. There, they discovered Mr. Wright suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced dead.
The investigation into the shooting began immediately, with
the Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis being called in to assist the North County Police Cooperative. The events leading to the discovery of the suspects began to unfold shortly after the shooting. Police attempted to pull over a silver BMW, but the vehicle fled the scene. Later that evening, around 9:00 p.m., officers spotted the same car. The occupants abandoned the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot, but two individuals were quickly taken into custody as persons of interest.
Following an intensive investigation by the Major Case Squad, two suspects were formally charged in connection with the murder of Wendell Wright. Tyrus K. Young, who was 19 years old at the time, was charged with second-degree murder, armed criminal action, and tampering with a motor vehicle. The second suspect, 22-year-old Keyshawn T. Brown, faced a federal charge of possession of a firearm and ammunition by a felon. Both men, residents of Wellston, were taken into custody and held without bond. The motive for the shooting was not immediately released to the public.
