In the summer of 2022, a tragic event unfolded in the quiet setting of Artesian Park in Clinton, Missouri, leading to the untimely death of 21-year-old Mitchell Andrew Raines. On a July evening, Raines, along with 18-year-old Mason Roskop, was fatally shot. Both young men succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds, sending a shockwave through the community.
The investigation into the double homicide led to the arrest of Airic Norman Brauer. Brauer, who was 19 at the time of the incident, was charged in connection with the death of Mitchell Andrew Raines. He pleaded not guilty to the charges, setting the stage for a jury trial that would delve into the heart-wrenching details of that fateful night in the park.
The trial took place in January 2024, during which the jury heard four days of evidence and testimony. After deliberation, the jury found Airic Norman Brauer guilty of voluntary manslaughter and armed criminal action. In April 2024, the court handed down his sentence. After hearing arguments from both the prosecution and the defense, as well as emotional statements from the families of both Raines and Roskop, the judge sentenced Brauer to a total of 16 years in the Missouri Department of Corrections. The sentences for the two charges were to be served consecutively, with ten years for voluntary manslaughter and an additional six years for armed criminal action.
