On September 17, 2023, in Clinton, Missouri, 16-year-old Royce Hayes Osburn was fatally shot by his 70-year-old grandfather, Thomas Ribby. The incident occurred at their shared residence, where Osburn's mother, Melissa Ribby, also lived. According to court documents, earlier in the evening, Ribby had provided a Glock firearm to his grandson to "play with."
