Neal Boyd IV, a 16-year-old sophomore from Gary, Indiana, was tragically shot and killed on March 30, 2001, outside Lew Wallace High School. Neal was known for his dedication to his studies and his involvement in mentoring younger boys through his church's outreach programs. On the morning of his death, Neal was walking to school when he was approached by Donald Ray Burt Jr., a 17-year-old former student who had been expelled from the school nearly two years prior for fighting and truancy.
