In the spring of 2009, the life of a promising young man, Darryl McKinney, was tragically cut short in Gary, Indiana. A 19-year-old Black male, McKinney was known for his compassionate and talented nature. He had attended both Westside and Roosevelt High Schools and was employed at the Gary Railcats Stadium. His death on April 21, 2009, was the result of a violent crime, specifically gun violence, that left his family, friends, and the community in mourning.
