In the small community of Ary, Kentucky, a violent altercation in May 2015 tragically ended the life of 44-year-old Robert Earl Miller. A male resident of Ary, Miller was involved in a dispute that escalated to gunfire, leaving him with a fatal gunshot wound to the face. The incident unfolded at a residence on Coates Branch Road, where troopers discovered Miller lying on the ground.
Following the shooting, Miller was rushed to Pikeville Medical Center for treatment.
Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries the day after the altercation. His death prompted an immediate investigation by the Kentucky State Police, who quickly identified a suspect in the case.
Authorities began a search for James D. Brewer, a 61-year-old man also from Ary, who was alleged to have been in a fight with Miller prior to the shooting. Investigators secured an arrest warrant for Brewer on a charge of murder. He was considered armed and dangerous, leading to a public appeal for information on his whereabouts.
The search for Brewer concluded when state police located him at his home on Coates Branch Road. Upon the arrival of law enforcement, Brewer attempted to flee but was swiftly apprehended by the state police special response team. He was taken into custody without further incident and lodged in the Kentucky River Regional Jail on the charge of murder.
