In the early morning hours of October 24, 2022, the life of Marcus D. McCathren, a 40-year-old Black male, was tragically cut short on Butler Way in Bowling Green, Kentucky. McCathren was walking along the street when he was fatally shot in what investigators have described as a drive-by shooting. The Bowling Green Police Department responded to reports of shots fired and found McCathren deceased at the scene.
Investigators quickly began canvassing the neighborhood, speaking with
residents and reviewing footage from nearby home security cameras. This video evidence proved crucial, showing a black Nissan SUV approaching McCathren from the opposite direction. As the vehicle passed, three shots were fired from the driver's side, with one striking and killing McCathren. In the days that followed, the police received multiple tips, including one through South Central Kentucky Crime Stoppers that identified 38-year-old Torian Lamar Jackson as the suspected shooter.
Following up on these leads, detectives located a witness who claimed that Jackson had confessed to killing McCathren the day after the incident. The investigation also uncovered a possible motive, revealing that McCathren had allegedly assaulted Jackson in a prior incident. Despite denying his involvement when questioned by detectives, Torian Lamar Jackson was arrested on October 28, 2022. He has since been charged with murder, first-degree wanton endangerment, first-degree criminal mischief, tampering with physical evidence, and being a persistent felony offender. As of June 2024, court proceedings in the case against Jackson were ongoing.
