In the quiet city of Bowling Green, Kentucky, a dedicated naturopathic doctor, Juan Sanchez Gonzalez, a 59-year-old male, met a tragic and untimely end. On the evening of Friday, March 3, 2017, concerned individuals discovered Dr. Gonzalez unresponsive inside his place of business, the Natural Health Center for Integrative Medicine. Responding paramedics confirmed he was deceased, and the Bowling Green Police Department immediately began investigating the case as a homicide.
The
investigation into Dr. Gonzalez's death led authorities to a suspect, Omer Ahmetovic, then 35 years old. Ahmetovic was taken into custody and charged with the murder of the respected doctor. The motive behind the killing was deeply personal and born from a place of grief and anger. Ahmetovic's wife, Fikreta Ibrisevic, had been a patient of Dr. Gonzalez while she battled cancer. Following his wife's death, Ahmetovic filed a lawsuit against the naturopathic caregiver. The grief and legal dispute culminated in the fatal shooting of Dr. Gonzalez.
Ultimately, Omer Ahmetovic pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of second-degree manslaughter and tampering with physical evidence. In June 2018, he was sentenced to 12 years in prison for his role in the death of Dr. Gonzalez.
