In the early morning hours of December 30, 2023, a violent altercation at the Brookwood Mobile Home Park in Bowling Green, Kentucky, tragically ended the life of 30-year-old Darrius Wickware. Police were dispatched to the scene at approximately 2:56 a.m. following reports of shots being fired. By the time officers arrived, Wickware was already being transported by a private vehicle to TriStar Greenview Regional Hospital, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite medical efforts, he was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The investigation into Wickware's death quickly pointed to one individual. Witnesses at the scene described a physical altercation between Wickware and another man. This man was identified as 37-year-old Quinton 'Q' LaShawn Hampton of Auburn, Kentucky. Accounts from those present indicated that during the confrontation, Hampton revealed a handgun and fired at least two shots as Wickware attempted to flee into a residence. Investigators were able to use surveillance footage from the area to identify a Dodge Charger connected to Hampton at the scene.

An arrest warrant for murder was issued for Hampton on the same day as the shooting. Law enforcement, including the Bowling Green Police Department, Kentucky State Police, and the Warren County Drug Task Force, located and apprehended Hampton on January 1, 2024, at a residence on Memphis Junction Road. Following his arrest, Hampton faced charges of murder, tampering with physical evidence, and being a convicted felon in possession of a handgun. In a subsequent development, a woman named Rhiannon Tinsley was also charged with first-degree hindering prosecution for allegedly assisting Hampton in his attempt to evade capture. Ultimately, in September 2025, Quinton Hampton entered a guilty plea to the lesser charge of first-degree manslaughter, as well as possession of a handgun by a convicted felon. The plea agreement was reached after consultation with Wickware's family.
