In the early evening of May 1, 2022, the life of 44-year-old Willie Junior Bays was tragically cut short in Bowling Green, Kentucky. The Black / African American male was discovered inside a building situated near the railroad tracks on East 13th Avenue, in close proximity to the Western Kentucky University campus. Responding to reports of gunfire at approximately 5:40 p.m., the Bowling Green Police Department found Bays suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Despite any efforts to render aid, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into Bays' death immediately began, with detectives from the Bowling Green Police Department canvassing the area for evidence and potential witnesses. While the initial stages of the investigation did not yield a suspect, authorities have actively pursued leads and gathered video evidence in an effort to identify the person or persons responsible for this violent act. However, investigators have released information about a vehicle of interest, a 2000 or 2001 Toyota Camry with dark-tinted windows and a distinctive skull sticker on the rear windshield, which they believe may have been involved in the shooting.
