On September 7, 2013, DaVaughn Pitts, an 18-year-old from Gary, Indiana, was tragically killed in a shooting incident. The shooting occurred in the early hours of the morning in the 9300 block of Sunrise in the Miller Beach area of Gary. A large group of people had gathered outside a house when someone began shooting. DaVaughn Pitts was one of six people shot during the incident.
