On the evening of December 10, 2009, the life of 18-year-old Brittany Ann Denise March was tragically cut short in an Indianapolis apartment. A recent graduate of Franklin Community High School, Brittany was enrolled at Ivy Tech Community College with dreams of becoming a veterinary technician, a testament to her love for animals. She was described by her mother as an outgoing and spirited teenager with many friends.
That evening, Brittany had been arguing with her 19-year-old boyfriend,
Corey Dix. She had called family members to let them know she intended to leave the apartment they shared in the 2800 block of East County Line Road. When her family couldn't reach her later, a family member went to the apartment to check on her.
After receiving no answer at the door, her family member forced entry into the apartment and made a devastating discovery. Inside the bedroom, both Brittany and Corey were found dead from gunshot wounds. Investigators believe that Dix shot Brittany twice in the head before turning the gun on himself in a murder-suicide. A handgun was found under his body at the scene. The specific nature of their argument that preceded the tragic event was not released by police. Because the sole suspect in Brittany's death also died at the scene, there were no arrests or subsequent legal proceedings.
